Red Squirrels at Kelling Heath Holiday Park
The park has two enclosures specially designed to house Red Squirrels. Currently there are two mature Red Squirrels who are a successful breeding pair and have just had a litter of two young (May 2007).

Kelling Heath Holiday Park are members of the Red Squirrel Conservation Trust and have helped to run an extensive breeding programme for the last 8 years. The squirrels normally produce two litters every year, and recently the Kelling Heath squirrels have been very successful.
The young are usually taken any from the breeding enclosures after about 16 weeks and often released into the wild. This release is always done in suitable areas where their preferred habitat of conifer woodland is present, and where the Grey Squirrel population is heavily controlled. Some of the other young have been moved around to help develop other breeding pairs within the Conservation Trust, therefore maintaining a healthy and diverse breeding population. The last litter of Red Squirrels to be bred at Kelling Heath were released on Anglesey Island, Wales.
